Newari means the Kathmandu Valley in particular, not Nepal in general, and it is the half of this menu you will not find on every block. Chatamari, the rice-flour crepe. A Newari thali built on beaten rice, black-eyed peas and roasted soybeans, which is a different set from the regular one. Kachila and Chula Baji, Saturday and Sunday only. And momo in seven preparations — steamed, kothe, fried, chilli, jhol, cream, and the pink cream sauce that two New York food writers went out of their way to describe.

After dark
The back wall is one painting the width of the room. A Lakhey — the red-maned masked dancer who clears the street ahead of a Kathmandu Valley festival — comes through the water mid-stride, the Himalaya behind him, Newari pagoda roofs to one side and the Brooklyn Bridge to the other. Marigold garlands run the length of the ceiling beneath it, and everything else is blue and magenta neon, blue velvet wing chairs and candles on the tables.
There is a full bar — beer, wine and cocktails — and live music Friday through Sunday from 8:30pm. The kitchen stays open until midnight, seven days a week, which in this part of Queens is the whole point.

The room
Neon over the banquettes, a Lakhey across the back wall, and garlands the length of the ceiling.
Visit
Open every day, noon until midnight. Live music Friday through Sunday from 8:30pm — call ahead for a larger table.
